RIP Ruth Prawer Jhabvala (1927-2013) – A minute of silence to one of the greatest screenwriters of all time. The Merchant/Ivory were what they were not only because of producer Ismail Merchant and director James Ivory but also because of its impecable writer, famous for their several film adaptations of literature classics from E.M. Forster, Henry James and Kazuo Ishiguro. She wrote 22 Merchant/Ivory productions, including her two Oscar winning scripts for A Room with a View and Howards End, and the nominated The Remains of the Day. Starting with The Householder (1963) and ending with The City of Your Final Destination (2010), one of the very few she didn’t write for the company was Maurice (1987). The only exception with another personel was Madame Sousatzka (1988), which was directed by John Schlesinger.Jhabvala died in her home from complications of a pulmonar disorder on 3 April 2013 at the age of 85
